As the magazine coordinator of WISH Dream Weddings I have certainly read my fair share of perfectly romantic marriage proposals and wedding stories. With the production of our magazine’s very first edition finally coming to a halt in November 2009, you could almost say I had become “wedding obsessed”! I was living, breathing and even dreaming weddings. As November approached my boyfriend Chris suggested we escape to Sydney for a long weekend, to help clear my head and hopefully stop thinking about work - I jumped at the idea! We stayed in five-star accommodation and Chris let me dress shop from morning to night. We even had tickets booked to see the ‘Wicked Musical’ playing at Capitol Theatre.

As the performance ended we left the theatre and I started to head back towards the hotel. But Chris insisted we go for a walk through the city, even though it was midnight and 12 degrees outside. After a pleasant stroll through the city streets we ended up in Hyde Park, standing next to a beautiful water fountain lit up by night lights, opposite a gorgeous old cathedral. Chris took hold of my left hand and said “first I have to do one thing”. His other hand reached into his jeans pocket and pulled out the most perfect, sparkly diamond ring. I was definitely in shock but completely overjoyed.

I had wanted this FOREVER, but in Chris’ words I have to learn to be more patient! Well, I’m pleased to announce that six years of learning to be patient finally paid off for me, and even though his opening sentence was “I know you’re going to say yes…” I can’t think of a better way, time, or place for Chris to have popped the question. As if it was fate, we left the park sometime after midnight, just as a newly married couple approached the fountain for their own wedding photos to be taken. They may have bizarre timing- but I think their location choice was perfectly romantic. - Amanda Deacon
