My fiancé, Luke and I were together for eight years before he took the plunge and popped the question. We were on holidays cruising the Whitsunday Islands when we headed to Whitehaven Beach for the day on October 21, 2009.
We were about half way along the beach when Luke started to ask some intriguing questions, such as “how much do you love me”, “how happy are you”, my initial thought was “what’s he going on about”. I was so caught up in the moment with the sand between our toes and pristine water splashing at our feet that I didn’t see what was about to come my way!
The next thing I knew he was down on one knee, pulling out the ring box from his boardies, and said “I love you so much, will you marry me?” I couldn’t hold it together, burst into tears, and of course, said “YES”. It was a moment in time never to be forgotten.
Luke had requested permission from my dad, organised to keep the ring in a safe place while packing and transferring luggage from plane to ferry and then the catamaran, before quickly hiding it in his boardies when we hit Whitehaven Beach. I had no idea!
