The beach at sunset is one of the most popular locations for bridal parties to be photographed in the Top End. The glow of the coffee rock cliffs create a romantic light while the shimmering water creates a dreamy atmosphere.

But there are many other spots where the bridal couple can have their wedding photographs taken.
Some ideas include:

• Nitmiluk Gorge at sunset, near Katherine
• Charles Darwin Park for city views, in Darwin
• Alice Springs Desert Park, for an outback feel

If a bride has never had her make-up done professionally - her wedding day should be something different. But that doesn’t mean she needs to look like a Las Vegas showgirl.

A polished, natural look is popular for Territory brides as it enables the make-up artist to accentuate the bride’s features while still allowing her to look like herself.
The idea is to look like a “shinier” version of yourself, according to Darwin make-up artist Kelli Trouchet, owner of NV Perfection Services.

Finding the perfect wedding gown can be one of the hardest tasks for a bride. There is so much to consider – style, shape, embellishments, neckline and skirt details.
Even deciding the colour is not as simple as picking “white” when you can choose between ivory, champagne, peach, diamond white or gold.

Some Territory brides have ignored traditional whites and gone for dramatic looks including burgundy, black and white and recently a local bride wore a canary yellow gown with a red ribbon to match her bridesmaids’ red dresses.

Wedding speeches can either be the highlight of the night or drag on so long guests only get to dance for half an hour.

Here are some suggestions on how to reach a balance:

• To avoid long drawn out speeches, only select one representative each from the groom and bride’s side of the family to speak.
• Try having the speeches at the start of the evening so people can kick up their heels sooner than later.  

Trailing through nightclubs wearing a ball and chain or pink veil and clutching a cocktail the size of a goldfish bowl isn’t everyone’s idea of a great night out to farewell your years of singledom.

There are plenty of different ways to celebrate the traditional hens and bucks nights without finding yourself naked and tied to a pole the next morning.
